While other manufacturers provide hybrid bases of various collar heights, we have decided to provide one height. Why you may wonder? Do not dentists need to have different heights to create customized restorations? The answer is simply no.

Reduce stock and save money as well as storage space

Elos Medtech provides the dental market with two dental hybrid bases. Elos Accurate Hybrid Base Engaging allows you to create screw-retained and cemented crowns and cemented bridges on customized abutments. Elos Accurate Hybrid Base Non-Engaging allows you to create screw-retained bridge restorations and bar-retained overdentures.

Both hybrid bases come with one collar height only. The collar height is the part of the hybrid base that is placed under the soft tissue.

One may argue that multiple collar heights are needed because different patients have different gingival height. And yes, it is true that some patients have more soft tissue than others while some have less.

The solution for many dental manufacturers is to provide hybrid bases in various collar heights. This way, a patient with a one-millimeter soft tissue is given a hybrid base with a one-millimeter collar height, and a patient with a three-millimeter soft tissue is given a hybrid base with a three-millimeter collar height, and so on.

As the gingival height in patients varies, the dental labs have to purchase a large number of hybrid bases in many different sizes. To exemplify: Let us say you work with five different implant systems and each system has four different implant connections. This means you have 20 hybrid bases to consider from when planning your stock.

You get the idea. Not only do you have to spend a lot of money but you also need storage space available to keep this large stock.

However, with Elos Accurate Hybrid Bases, this is not necessary. One height only means less stock, less need for storage, and less money spent.

Create customized and highly aesthetic dental restorations

So, how is it possible then, to create dental restorations that will fit every patient perfectly with a hybrid base that has one collar height only?

This is how it works.

Instead of using different collar heights for different patients, you can use the Elos Accurate Hybrid Base to do a customized abutment and place the crown or bridge on top. This allows you to create dental restorations that are truly customized – down to the very micrometer.

You can customize the abutment to fit the exact height of your patient’s soft tissue. If your patient has a gingival height of 2.5 millimeters, you don’t have to choose between a hybrid base with a two-millimeter collar height or three-millimeter collar height. Instead, you can make a correct emergence profile and adapt the height to the specific patient, making it exactly 2.5 millimeters.

Also, customized abutments can be made of a more dense material which allows the outer crown to be created in a softer material. This means you can create the exact color of the crown to achieve the most aesthetic result for your patient.

While many other hybrid bases have a silver color, which can sometimes create a dark shadow if the patient has a very thin soft tissue, Elos Accurate Hybrid Bases have a golden color. This also contributes to a more natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing result.

Fewer components reduce the risk of error in the CAD software

Elos Accurate Hybrid Bases are part of our open digital solutions. This means you can work partly or entirely digital. When working entirely digitally, the dentist can use an intra-oral scan to take a digital impression of the patient’s teeth and the technician can use CAD software to design a 3D model of the crown or bridge, which can then be 3D-printed or milled.

When designing a 3D-model in the software, all dental components are available in the Elos Accurate Library including the Elos Accurate Hybrid Bases. With a number of hybrid bases of various heights, the risk for picking the wrong size is larger compared to having one height only.

If this has ever happened to you, you know exactly how devastating it can be to have to do the entire process all over again involving also the dentist as well as the patient!

With one height only, you simply have fewer components to pick and choose from, which reduces the risk of error.

Dental hybrid bases with one collar height do make sense

To sum it up: Using dental hybrid bases with collar height brings a number of advantages to dental professionals. It is easier to plan your purchases, keep stock levels low, create truly customized and highly aesthetic dental restorations, and it minimizes the risk of error when working in the software.

So, are you ready to simplify your workflow by using one collar height only? What is your opinion? Let me know in the comments! Also, check out the Elos Accurate Hybrid Bases if you haven’t already. See you in the next post!
